Artist's Comments

This is Shadik, the older sister of Litsia [link] . She's a character in my AugNo, and currently the narrator, after I switched from her sister's point of view to hers.

Now, I drew a silhouette of her and I was going to color the inside black and focus more on the colors of the background, but I decided not to. These are the colors that come to mind when I think of Shadik; notice the recurring ones, especially yellow, purple/blue, and dark green. Coincidentally (or not!) these are the colors that the consonant sounds of her name (Sh, D, K) are to me, respectively. They fit with her personality too.

The dark red-black "scar" in her chest...? Well, I think Shadik dies young, and that represents that fact, and also that her death is somehow 'inside' her even though she's not dying, per se.... I don't know whether she dies of a disease, or if she's murdered. If she is murdered, I know exactly who does it, and I'm not telling. :)

Tell me what you think, please!

(Colored in crayon, about half an hour. The sketch and inking took about twenty minutes, more or less.)

Nooooooo....don't kill Shadik....I'll cry D=

But anyway, this is really pretty. I love all the colors and the patterns and such. A very good idea.

Thanks! I was trying for some sort of aura color, to go with her personality or something, and then I thought, screw it.

But it does sort of go with her personality, in a way. Well, to me it does :D

And the frightening facts we've been facing our backs to for so long now are begging for eyes to bear witness to lies and indifference.

I'm dreaming I know,
But it seems so real,
flying away...

Hey, thanks! :)

Because crayons are more... well, I don't know, I like them better than colored pencil for coloring things because I don't have to draw so many little lines. The color usually comes out more even and it takes less time, plus I can blend the colors better. :)

Thanks for the comment!

I love this. The scar is emotionally moving. I think you should try watercolors. So much harder, but so much more rewarding if you can master the intricacies. Wet media have a certain flow to them. Artsnobs (and I'm not one) will apreciate you more, but you'll also get a certain sense of mastery that you won't get from pencils. At the very least you'll get some fun and frustration from trying. Rock on.
